Chicago Federation of Labor Statement on Passage of the Fair Workweek Ordinance

CFL President Reiter: Passage of Fair Workweek marks “a great day for Chicago’s workers”

CHICAGO – Chicago Federation of Labor President Bob Reiter released the following statement in response to the passage of the Fair Workweek Ordinance by the Chicago City Council:

“Every day, hardworking men and women from Rogers Park to Roseland and everywhere in between go to work to make Chicago the greatest city in the world. These workers are second to none, and they deserve the strongest protections possible on the job. With the passage of the Fair Workweek Ordinance, the Chicago City Council has enacted the most expansive predictive scheduling law in the country. Hundreds of thousands of Chicago workers will get much needed scheduling fairness on the job that will result in the predictability needed to care for loved ones, advance their educations, and plan for their financial futures. Today is a great day for Chicago’s workers.

“I want to thank Alderwoman Garza for being a tireless champion over the last two-and-a-half years of hard work it took to pass this ordinance and I want to thank Mayor Lori Lightfoot for her leadership and vision in making today a reality. I also want to commend the City Council for taking another step to put this city on the side of working people. I look forward to continuing this momentum and working to ensure Chicago is the most pro-worker city in the country.”
