Chicago Federation of Labor Statement on Passage of the City Budget
CFL President Reiter: Passage of budget “an important step in the right direction”
CHICAGO – Chicago Federation of Labor President Bob Reiter released the following statement in response to the passage of the city budget by the Chicago City Council:
“Chicago's working women and men need to know their city is on stable financial footing, and this budget represents an important step in the right direction. I commend our city leaders, including Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Chicago City Council, for putting forward and passing a responsible budget. I am also proud to see the city minimum wage raised to $15 by 2021, helping to lift hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans out of poverty. I congratulate the mayor, Ald. Sophia King, and the entire Raise Chicago coalition for their hard work in making this a reality.
"Though there is certainly more work to be done to bolster city finances and expand Chicago's public services in neighborhoods, ultimately this budget is a sound investment in our city's future."
