Chicago Can't Wait for Workplace Scheduling Fairness

It's Time to Pass the Chicago Fair Workweek Ordinance

(CHICAGO) – The Chicago Federation of Labor and the Chicago Fair Workweek Coalition released the following joint statement regarding the progress of the Fair Workweek Ordinance in City Council:

“The Chicago Federation of Labor and the Chicago Fair Workweek Coalition has been working on the issue of fairness in workplace scheduling for years, and we have negotiated with business groups on the specifics of this ordinance for more than six months. We have made significant compromises to ensure a balanced approach that meets the needs of workers without overburdening businesses or compromising public safety. This ordinance is simply too important to the working men and women of this city to delay any longer. It is time to act.

"That being said, should the current City Council defer consideration of the ordinance, the CFL and the Chicago Fair Workweek Coalition are ready to engage the next City Council and Mayor-elect Lightfoot on the issue of workplace fairness. While Mayor-elect Lightfoot has already expressed her support for the current proposed ordinance, we believe the next City Council may want to take a fresh look at the issue, and we would be eager to work with them to ensure the strongest possible protections for working families in Chicago."
