Leader of NABET-CWA Local 41 Joins CFL Executive Board

The Chicago Federation of Labor is proud to welcome Don V. Villar, President of NABET-CWA Local 41, to the CFL Executive Board.

Villar is an award-winning veteran broadcast news journalist, union leader, community activist, and attorney. Villar spent 25 years working for WLS TV (ABC) Chicago, where he won an Emmy Award for breaking news coverage. In 2010, Villar was elected Vice President of NABET-CWA Local 41—a union representing nearly 1,000 broadcast news and TV production workers in Chicago—and was later elected President in 2015. In this role Villar negotiates collective bargaining agreements, handles grievance and arbitration, and responds to workplace issues affecting union members. NABET-CWA Local 41’s membership has also grown under Villar’s leadership, with his successful effort to organize employees at CAN TV. In addition, Villar is President of the CWA Illinois Unified Council, is on the Campaign Cabinet of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and is active with the Chicago Federation of Labor, Illinois AFL-CIO and Chicago Jobs With Justice.

“Don has always been an active partner with the Chicago Federation of Labor as one of our delegates,” said CFL President Jorge Ramirez. “Whenever there is an event or a rally, Villar is always there, on the front lines, fighting not only for his members, but for the rights of all working people. I believe he will be a great addition to our board and will continue to advocate for the entire movement.”
