Chicago Federation of Labor makes endorsements in April 5 runoff

Union organization backs candidates who will stand up for working people in Chicago City Council

Chicago, IL —

The Chicago Federation of Labor today endorsed three additional candidates in the upcoming April 5 runoff for the 2011 Chicago municipal election.

The Executive Board of the CFL voted to endorse Daniel Solis (25th Ward), Tim Egan (43rd Ward) and John Arena (45th Ward) in their campaigns for alderman.  The CFL made no endorsement in the 24th and 41st Wards; it is still considering an endorsement in the 46th Ward.

The CFL maintains its endorsement of the eight candidates endorsed in February who now face the second round. Twenty-seven of the CFL-endorsed candidates won outright on February 22.

“We are prepared to reach out to union households through phone calls, mail and door-to-door visits on behalf of our endorsed candidates,” said Jorge Ramirez, President of the Chicago Federation of Labor.  “Union members want a City Council that understands the issues working people face and we will work with them to elect aldermen who will stand up for a strong middle class here in Chicago.”

The Chicago Federation of Labor is the largest organized labor group in the Chicago area.  It is comprised of 320 affiliated local unions whose membership in Chicago and Cook County exceeds half a million.
