UPDATE: After meeting with Jim Tyree to discuss the buyout provisions, the Guild and its members voted to approve the changes.  As of October 12, not all unions, however, have agreed to Tyree's proposal, including the Chicago Typographical Union.

Members of the Chicago Newspaper Guild voted to reject concessions demanded by Jim Tyree, the prospective buyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, in his takeover bid.

Guild executive director Tom Thibeault told the Sun-Times in an interview

This was not a vote against Tyree or his bid.  This is a vote that puts into place that people want to save the Sun-Times, but that they also want to sit at the table and work out the details.

Newsroom staff at the paper have already made concessions, which Tyree wants to extend to help his group of investors turn around the company.

The sides have until September 29 to reach an agreement.
