Chicago continues to gear up for the Olympic Committee’s April visit in hopes of bringing the even to the windy city. Jesse Russell reports.
Chicago is one of the world cities on the short list to host the 2016 Olympic Games. Chicago Federation of Labor President Dennis Gannon says the Olympics would not only benefit his city, but also the entire upper Midwest region.
[Gannon1]: When you talk about jobs, you know right now we are in an economic downturn and everyone’s talking stimulus, stimulus, stimulus, well, there is no better stimulus package than the 2016 Olympics to the city of Chicago.
Gannon said he believes there is more to Olympic job creation than simply construction jobs.
[Gannon2]: Everybody focuses on the construction jobs and there are going to be a lot of them, but when you talk about transportation and distribution and logistics and you talk about hospitality and security and technology…those are the jobs that are going to flow into this and be here after the Olympics leave.
