President

Dennis J. Gannon currently serves as President of the Chicago Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, a position he has held since May of 2002. Prior to his election as CFL President, and re-election in 2006, he served as CFL Secretary-Treasurer for six years and for one year as Assistant to CFL President. Gannon is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 where he served as Business Agent from 1991 until joining the CFL in 1995.  Before working for Local 150, Gannon worked for 17 years at the City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation as a hoisting engineer, foreman, and general foreman.

Throughout his career in organized labor, Gannon has served on a number of boards and commissions for labor, government, and community organizations.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Amalgamated Bank of Chicago, Blue Cross Blue Shield/HCSC, Citizen Action/Illinois, the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau, Chicago Jobs with Justice and United Way of Metropolitan Chicago.  He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Metropolitan Planning Council and President of the Michael Bruton Workplace Safety Foundation.   

Gannon is also a member of the Chicago Public Schools Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee, the Chicago Workforce Board, the Illinois Department of Labor Advisory Board, the St. Joseph College Seminary’s Rerum Novarum Committee, the University of Illinois at Chicago Labor Advisory Board, and the Welfare Reform Task Force.

From 1992 until 2004, he served on the Illinois Capital Development Board and previously served on the Illinois Human Resource Investment Council.

Gannon is a graduate of St. Laurence High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana State University.  He resides in Chicago with his wife, Diane.  They have two children, Matt and Colleen.
