The Illinois House and Senate passed a bill to provide long term funding to the Chicago area mass transit system. But Governor Blagojevich sent the bill back to legislators calling for changes to the language to provide free rides for senior citizens. The January 20 doomsday deadline remains and transit workers and riders are hopeful legislators will once again act on the bill before the layoffs, service reductions and fare hikes go into effect.
