For over 30 years, Jay's Potato Chips and O-Ke-Doke Popcorn have been made by hard working union members right here in Chicago. But that is no longer the case. When Jay's Foods arranged for a quick sale to Snyder's recently, the Chicago production facility was shut down and 220 union members were put out of work.
In October, Jay's Foods filed for bankruptacy and looked to sell off the company. Despite an offer from another buyer who sought to keep the Chicago facility and the workers, represented by the International Union of Allied, Novelty and Production Workers, Jay's Foods opposed the bid. If you are looking for a local, union-made snack this holiday season, look to Vitners! |
