The Technicians and Newswriters, represented by NABET-CWA, who bring you the ABC-7 News have been working without a contract for the past 4 months. On Tuesday, they were joined by their union brothers and sisters in solidarity as they fight Disney/ABC management's anti-worker stance during the negotiations.
The Newsriters, Studio Technicians, Newsgathering Crews, Editors and some Producers have worked without a contract since April 1, 2007 and are fighting for their dignity, the right to stay in the workplace, the right to grow in new technologies, and secure a future with the company now, and into their retirement years. The NOT so wonderful world of Disney/ABC-7 has been revealed during negotiations with the union, including: - Stonewalling efforts by the union to participate in new work opportunities and emerging technologies
- Proposing to freeze the healthy pension plan established for workers
- Attempting to change the seniority/layoff system
- Cutting back existing overtime pay entitlements
- Reducing existing union work jurisdiction
