2007 Scholarship Winners Announced |

The Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) announced the 2007 winners of the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards. Ten high school seniors from the Chicago area each will receive $1,500 from the CFL to help offset the cost of college when they begin next fall. To be eligible, either the students or one of his or her parents must be members of a union affiliated with the CFL. “The Chicago Federation of Labor is proud to honor these hardworking and motivated young men and women,” said CFL President Dennis J. Gannon. “We wish them the best of luck as they prepare to face new challenges and achievements in their academic careers.”
The winners are: - Mark Ely (Chicago Fire Fighters Union)
- Cara Gallagher (Chicago Fire Fighters Union)
- Alexa Llibre (Chicago Teachers Union)
- Mark Lynn (Carpenters Union Local 839)
- Hannah Malisia (Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local 130)
- Kaitlyn McCabe (Carpenter’s Local 1027)
- Elizabeth Miller (Millwright Local 1693)
- Charlotte Noreen (Chicago Teachers Union)
- Kevin Rabichow (Amalgamated Transit Union Local 308)
- Amy Zhang (UNITE HERE Local 1)
The scholarship awards pay tribute to William A. Lee, who served as a CFL President for 38 years and who devoted over 60 years to the cause of labor and civic and community service. The Chicago Federation of Labor represents over 300 affiliated unions and labor partners with a combined membership of over 500,000 workers in the Chicago and Cook County area. |
