The Chicago Federation of Labor extends an enormous thank you to all of our members for playing such an active and vital role in this year’s election. Without you, we wouldn’t have had such a tremendous success in electing candidates – from Subcircuit Court Judges to the President of the Cook County Board – who will stand up for working families.

An amazing 95% (35 of 37) of the CFL’s endorsed candidates won on Tuesday, including the significant victory for Todd Stroger in his bid to succeed his father as Cook County Board President. The Chicago Federation of Labor was more involved in this election season than we ever have been in the previous cycles. We sent out nearly 600,000 pieces of mail and made nearly 400,000 phone calls to our members, encouraging them to vote for candidates who would stand up for the rights of organized labor. We recruited volunteers to walk precincts and work phone banks. We touted our endorsed candidates in full-page advertisements in the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Defender. The CFL sent postcards and letters to tens of thousands of union members on behalf of judicial candidates and county commissioners. We helped organize Todd Stroger’s Get-Out-The-Vote rally and were right there until the victorious end when Todd claimed victory yesterday.
None of this would have been possible without your tremendous support and dedication. |
