TAKE ACTION NOW

Good Jobs Now!, the AFL-CIO’s new interactive website, gives workers, people who have lost their jobs and activists a chance to take action, share their stories, find resources and, most importantly, be part of a grassroots movement to help the nation climb out of its 10-million jobs hole created by the recession.

As the AFL-CIO’s Good Jobs Now! mobilization heats up in the coming weeks, you will be able to find events in your area so you can join the growing movement demanding that lawmakers focus on job creation and hold corporations like Whirlpool and big Wall Street banks accountable for their economic damage.

To help build and connect a community of job activists, the new site gives workers, employed and jobless, the opportunity to share their stories, photos and videos of how the job crisis has affected them, their families and communities, as well as ideas about the best ways to solve the job crisis and help rebuild the middle class. You also can read and comment on the stories.

Support real health care reform!

A key component of reform is a quality public health insurance option because it will help hold down costs and provide real competition for insurance companies. But the public option is at risk because insurance companies are spending millions on lobbyists to stop it. It’s time for members of Congress to side with us instead of health insurance lobbyists and support a public option.

Tens of thousands of you have already made calls, written letters and attended town hall meetings on health care reform, but we need you to call your senators again today. Opponents of reform aren’t slowing down and we can’t afford to slow down either.

Ask your senators to join us and support a public insurance option to reform our health care system. Call Today:  (202) 224-3121

Here are some specific talking points to keep in mind.

I want health care reform that:

  • Requires insurers to compete with a quality public health insurance option to keep them honest and hold down costs.
  • Requires companies to pay their fair share toward health care costs.
  • Does not impose fees on health coverage that will penalize the very people who are already struggling with out-of-control costs.
  • Puts people and their doctors in charge of their own health care.
  • Ends insurance company abuses.

Support the Employee Free Choice Act

Employee Free Choice Act

The right to form a union is one of the basic human rights proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Yet right here at home, the system for forming unions is broken. Tell your senators America’s working families need the Employee Free Choice Act to restore the freedom to form unions and bargain for a better life.

As the Employee Free Choice Act moves to the U.S. House and Senate, take a moment to thank Illinois' Senators Dick Durbin and Roland Burris for signing on as co-sponsors.
