Employer-sponsored Health Insurance Coverage Continues Decline

The health insurance most Americans receive, employer-sponsored insurance (ESI), has dwindled each year since 2000, according to a report released today by the Economic Policy Institute. The Erosion of Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance, by EPI economist Elise Gould, focuses on the decline of ESI coverage - the coverage most Americans receive, as well as the type of coverage that has seen the steepest decline.


1,000 Illinois Administrators Win a Union Voice With AFSCME

A year after voting for the union, some 1,000 Illinois state government administrators have become members of AFSCME Council 31 

The majority of the new union members work in the departments of Children & Family Services and Human Services, according to Council 31 spokesman Anders Lindall. Others are in the departments of Public Health and Aging, as well as some smaller departments. 

Says Council 31 Executive Director Henry Bayer:  

AFSCME is pleased to welcome these dedicated public servants into our union family. We are proud to stand and fight for them and the essential public services they provide.

Voter registration deadline: October 7!

The deadline to register to vote in the November election is Tuesday, October 7.

The Chicago Election Board will be open at 69 W. Washington Street and at City Hall on the Deadline, Tue., Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to Midnight.

You can also register at a number of sites across the Chicago area.
